New children's aldermen and mayor for Heerlen

ThIs afternoon, new children’s authorities and the new children’s mayor of the Dutch city of Heerlen were installed in the town hall in Heerlen by the alderman Jordy Clemens. Heerlen’s new children’s board consists of four girls: Victoria Bruggeman, Jenny Albers, Britt Lendi and Pien Vanhommerig. They are appointed aldermen and every three months they will take over the responsibilities of the mayor. Daphne Goddschmitz and Milan Weijers were appointed members of the children’s council.

Jordy Clemens said: ‘Today I installed new children’s authorities and the new mayor of Heerlen. In any case, great but – as far as I know – also the first fully feminine municipality in all of Limburg! ‘

Victoria Bruggeman daughter of our journalist, is among them. Victoria wants to organize joint events for lonely and sick elderly people and for children. Among other things she wants to fight loneliness among elderly people and give children a sense of responsibility. Victoria likes to talk to other children, exchange ideas and consult. She wants to get involved in improving safety in Heerlen, also in relation to traffic and other events for children. Especially for sick children or disabled children, such as blind children or in wheelchairs. As she said: ‘It would be great if all disabled and non-disabled children would learn from each other and enjoy our city during joint meetings and events.’

Victoria is 10 years old and is also the Young Ambassador of Poland.

Heerlen’s children’s board together with its ‘adult’ equivalent, ie the mayor of the city of Heerlen and the management of Heerlen, will take active part in organized events, in meetings of the city sessions, discussing issues concerning children and issues concerning the functioning of the city.
