Lithuanian Vice-Minister of Economy and Innovation visits Dutch Brightlands Chemelot Campus

On September 27, Vice-Minister of Economy and Innovation of the Republic of Lithuania Ieva Valeškaitė visited Brightlands Chemelot Campus in Sittard-Geleen in the Dutch region of Limburg together with the diplomatic delegation from Lithuania on the invitation of the honorary consul of Lithuania in Limburg Aloys Bruggeman RE RA.

The visit was targeted at specifying the possibilities of collaboration in the field of sustainability and circularity and was supported by the regional government Province of Limburg. The delegation: Ieva Valeškaitė, Vice-Minister of Economy and Innovation of the Republic of Lithuania, Grėtė Lelė, Advisor to the Minister of Economy and Innovation, Erika Tauraitė – Kawai, PhD Advisor, Industrial Policy Department, Ministry of Economy and Innovation, Julijus Glebovas, Lithuanian Trade Attaché for Netherlands and Aloys Bruggeman RE RA, Honorary Consul of Lithuania attended a series of presentations provided by Jurgen van de Rijke CFO Brightlands Chemelot Campus, Stephan Damer, general manager Blue Plastic, Wouter van den Berg, commercial director of the Compund company and Charles Mevis, Business developer of the regional development agency for Limburg supporting innovative entrepreneurs with advice, network and financing Liof.

The delegation was also taken on a tour visiting the expo and a start up loft by Karin Meulenberg , manager Community Events at Brightlands Chemelot Campus, Wouter van den Berg commercial director of the Compound Company and  Raoul Hardy, Business Development Manager- Materials &Applications. At a start-up loft they talked with Melvin Kizito from Kenia, founder of Alkyl Recycling. His aim is to get rid of piles of waste, billions of used diapers which have a negative impact on society, environment and health. As he stated in Brightlands Impact Magazine and repeated in our reportage he found  the ideal conditions to achieve his dream at Brightlands Chemelot Campus.

There are 120 companies actively involved at the Innovation campus of Brightlands in Sittard Geleen in the province of Limburg. Brightlands has four campuses. Brightlands Chemelot Campus in Sittard-Geleen concentrates on Circular materials, biomedical solutions and sustainable processes (Brightlands Chemelot Campus in Sittard-Geleen).

Other 3 are:

Brightlands Campus Greenport Venlo targeted on healthy and sustainable nutrition, future farming and biocircular economy.

Brightlands Maastricht Health Campus concentrating on valorisation, investment and funding.

And last but not least Brightlands Smart Services Campus in Heerlen aimed at artificial intelligence, data science and smart digital services.

At all campuses 30,000 entrepreneurs, researchers and students work every day on breakthroughs in the fields of sustainability, health and digitalization.
